Veteran seeks bravery medal to pass on to grandson

A veteran of the Second World War is trying to get the bravery medal he is entitled to so that he can pass it on to his grandson who is also serving in the Armed Forces.

96-year-old Idwal Davies who hails from Pemberton in Llanelli has tried to no avail to get the medal and has turned to local media to try and get some help.

Mr Davies has written history books on Llanelli and remarkably still volunteers as a helper at the local hospital.

A family friend said: “Idwal is a lovely man and all he wants is to get the medal he should have before he dies so he can pass it on to his grandson. He has done so much for people in Llanelli and he deserves to have this at least.”

Mr Davies served in the 7th Queen’s Own Hussars. He was born in 1926 and his army number was 14931212.

An MOD spokesperson said: “The MOD Medal Office is committed to ensuring serving personnel, veterans and their families receive the medallic recognition they so duly deserve.
The MOD Medal Office is happy to assist Mr Davies and can be contacted on 0800 085 3600 or via dbs-medals@mod.gov.uk.”
