Farming protest at Senedd concludes peacefully

A planned protest in Cardiff Bay has concluded peacefully with minor disruption to the public.
A policing operation was in effect for the duration of the protest which attracted around 3,000 people outside the Senedd.

Participants driving agricultural vehicles were given an approved route and a designated parking and holding area on the A4232 Eastern Bay Link Road.

This was facilitated by an order under Sections 12 and 14 of the Public Order Act 1986.
This decision was made in order to facilitate the wishes of the protestors to engage in peaceful protest, while balancing the safety of the wider public.

The road reopened at around 3pm.

Superintendent Esyr Jones said: “South Wales Police respects the right to peaceful protest, and following discussion with the organisers we were able to ensure that the protest took place safely, lawfully with minimum disruption to the wider public.

“Bringing tractors and other agricultural vehicles into a busy city environment poses a risk to the safety of other road users and potentially restricts the movement of emergency services.
“However, working with the protest organisers and Cardiff Council a suitable holding area was identified meaning little disruption or delay on routes around Cardiff Bay and across the wider South Wales road network.”
