Mother found not guilty of manslaughter & child neglect by reason of insanity – family tribute

Today, at Cardiff Crown Court, Olabisi Abubakar, 42, from Cardiff was found not guilty of manslaughter and child cruelty relating to the death of her three-year-old son Taiwo by reason of insanity.

Taiwo’s father has released the following statement:
“Taiwo was an amazing boy, he was a pleasure to behold.
“The first time I saw Taiwo, he gave me such joy, I was fulfilled.
“I wish Taiwo was still with us, but I want to remember him as the happy, talkative boy that he was.”

Concerns for Taiwo’s welfare were reported to South Wales Police on June 29, 2020.

Officers immediately attended his home address where they found him deceased.

Officer in the case Detective Sergeant John Harris from South Wales Police said: “This was a complex and tragic case. Our thoughts are with Taiwo and all those who knew and loved him.”

A hospital order will be imposed on Olabisi Abubaker at Cardiff Crown Court on Tuesday, May 2. She remains in hospital.
