Riverside incident confirmed as a sexual assault investigation

SOUTH WALES Police is appealing for information following a sexual assault which happened in Riverside, Cardiff, at around 5.30am on Saturday, April 6.

A woman, aged in hers 30s, was walking to work in the city centre when she was followed from the junction of Leckwith Road and Ninian Park Road near the Jeff White car garage.

She was then physically and sexually assaulted by the man described as white, tall and slim.

After first running after her, he then ran off from Ninian Park Road in the direction of Canton.

The woman was treated at the University Hospital of Wales for a head injury but has since been discharged and is recovering at home with her family.

Detectives are scouring CCTV, items are being forensically examined and house to house enquiries are on-going.

Detective Inspector Paul Raikes, from South Wales Police, said: “Serious incidents of this nature are not common in Cardiff and I have a team of detectives carrying out an investigation and specially-trained officers supporting the victim at what is a difficult time for her.

“There were other people walking in the area at the time of the incident and also passing traffic.

“We are appealing to anyone who may have seen this man before or after the incident to please come forward.”
