Storage Facility Plans Submitted to Bridgend Council

Plans to build a new self-storage facility on land close to a Bridgend industrial estate have been submitted to the local council.

They were handed in by developers at Simply Planning Limited in November for the creation of a storage site located south of Wyndham Close near to Brackla Industrial Estate.

If eventually approved the plans would see the currently vacant land used for 149 storage containers alongside parking and landscaping with access from Wyndham Close and a one-way vehicle circulation space.

The site currently comprises 0.98ha of cleared scrubland with the surrounding area predominantly in industrial use with Brackla Industrial Estate bordering it to the north and west.

The plans read: “This full planning application relates to the change of use of vacant land to self-storage use (Use Class B8), including the creation of a means of access, siting of storage containers, and associated works.

“The land would primarily be used for a self-storage container business which with the storage units being leased to members of the public.”

It added: “The proposed shipping containers would measure 6m by 2.44m with a maximum height of 2.6m and would be provided as a single blue colour.

“The submitted plans show that the shipping containers would be set back
from the public highway and would be kept to single storey in height.”

If given the go-ahead by council bosses the business would look to operate from 7am to 6pm every day of the week.

It would also be enclosed by a palisade boundary fence-line for security purposes.

It comes after a previous application to build 41 affordable residential dwellings on the site was rejected by the Bridgend County Borough Council in 2019.

The latest set of proposals will now go to the council’s planning authority for a decision to be made in the coming months
