Thousands attend Ironman event in West Wales

All roads to Tenby Saundersfoot and Amroth were closed today as the Ironman event took place.

Thousands of people descended on West Wales for the triathlon. The Ironman Wales course involves a 2.4-mile (3.9km) sea swim, a 112-mile (180km) bike ride and full marathon to be completed within 17 hours.

Thousands lined the route all the way across the coastline and along the country roads. There were very few places left to park today, Sunday (Sep 3).

People dressed up in fancy dress and others held up banners in support of their loved ones or colleagues competing at the event. Tenby was the hot spot for crowds with local businesses doing a roaring trade.

It was a gloriously sunny day in Pembrokeshire with families out enjoying the sunshine on the penultimate days before school starts back.
