Welsh Lib Dems raise concerns on pressures faced by Child Protection Services

Today (24th of October), the Welsh Lib Democrats have raised concerns over the increased pressure placed on child protection services in Wales.

According to a BBC Wales report, the demand on Child Protection Services in Wales has experienced a dramatic rise over the past year alone.

The number of contacts made with Children Service Departments in 2022-23 currently sits at 250,000. An increase of 48,548 compared to the last year.

Commenting, Jane Dodds MS said:

“These figures are extremely alarming and highlight just how important our social workers are here in Wales.

Child protection services are a safety net, there to help the most vulnerable children in our society.

This news comes at a time where we are seeing significant numbers of vacancies in Child Protection Services and follows the tragic deaths of children engaged with Child Protection Services.

This is why it is imperative that we ensure that our child protection services in Wales are well-supported to ensure that no child is left behind. ”
