A man, who held the position of Chairman of the junior section of a community football club admitted to taking more than £22,000 through fraudulent transactions.
The 45-year-old from Blaina was sentenced to 20 months suspended for two years at Cardiff Crown Court on Monday 27 July.
The defendant admitted to submitting false club expenses for football equipment, club improvements, fees, and bills that he had claimed to have paid for personally.
DC Kelsey Brown, the officer in charge, said: “The defendant abused his position of trust to embezzle money from a community football club.
“That money should have been put towards the improvement and general running of a local football club that serves the community.
“Fraud is not a victimless crime and all reports are taken seriously.
The Blaina man pleaded guilty to fraud by abuse of position in Newport Magistrates’ Court on Friday 12 June. He was sentenced to x years on Friday 10 July.
