Palestine Activists allege Dyfed Pension Fund holds investments in companies complicit with Gaza atrocities

Solidarity with Palestine Pembrokeshire has been active over the past 13 months in supporting Gaza and calling for a ceasefire.

The group has alleged that Pembrokeshire County Council pensions are being used to fund the killing and maiming of innocent civilians in Gaza.

Research by the National Palestine Solidarity Campaign found that the Dyfed Pension Fund, which covers Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire collectively holds investments of at least £64m in companies complicit in Israel’s current breaches of international law and human rights abuses.

The Pembrokeshire  group has joined with other Palestine support groups from Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion and have lobbied the Pension Fund Committee meetings which are held in Carmarthen.

Solidarity with Palestine Pembrokeshire set up a campaign group to lobby Pembrokeshire County Council and to start a petition, calling on Dyfed Pension Fund to initiate the divestment process away from those companies that are complicit in war crimes across Palestine.

The petition now has over 500 signatures, some signed by people receiving pensions and some by people working for PCC.
A local pensioner said ” I was  appalled to find out that after working for years for PCC social services, my Pension is being invested in companies that are involved with Israel and the daily killing of children and parents”.

On Monday 16th November campaigners handed in the signatures to Pembrokeshire County Council. This will secure discussion at a full council meeting, to be held on 12 December 2024.

A group of supporters in Narberth collected over 300 signatures and one of their members says: “We are determined to succeed in this campaign and have had a lot of local support already. People want their money to be invested ethically, in line with the Council’s own ethical principles.

“We believe that  the council should not be investing  in companies that make a profit from slaughtering people and devastating communities but instead in sustainable projects that help build communities.”
