100 days until Senedd Election, Plaid Cymru pledges ‘positive new leadership’ for Wales

With just 100 days until the Senedd election on 7 May 2026, Plaid Cymru leader Rhun ap Iorwerth MS has said that only Plaid Cymru can deliver “positive new leadership” for Wales.

Successive opinion polls have placed Plaid Cymru in poll position to replace Labour as the next Welsh Government – increasing its share to 37% in the latest poll, ahead of Reform on 23% and Labour on 10%.

Marking the occasion, Mr ap Iorwerth said his party’s plans for government are focused on issues which are important to people’s everyday lives, including on the NHS and the cost of living.

He reiterated that his party was best placed to stop Reform UK from taking powers in Wales and to stand up for Wales after over a century of Labour’s political dominance.

Plaid Cymru leader, Rhun ap Iorwerth MS said,

“In just 100 days, when people across Wales will be heading to the polls, communities across Wales can vote for positive new leadership that only Plaid Cymru can deliver.

“That means a government steadfast in standing up for Wales when we are shortchanged by Westminster – like on fair funding, rail injustice, and more powers.

“One that’s focused on improving our NHS. One that will support new and existing small businesses, create more well-paid jobs, and retain wealth in our communities.

“One that has a clear focus on giving children the best start in life – through the most generous free childcare offer in the UK. And one that teaches children the reading and maths skills they need to succeed with our literacy and numeracy plan.

“That’s the difference a Plaid Cymru Government can make – policies which will make a real genuine difference for so many communities.

“In 100 days, we can make this a reality. After over a century of Labour’s political dominance here in Wales, and with the threat of Reform very much real – only Plaid Cymru can deliver the positive change our communities need.”
