The Royal Welsh Agricultural Society was pleased to welcome the Welsh Pony & Cob Society (WPCS) to the Royal Welsh Showground last weekend as the Society celebrated its 125th anniversary.
Founded in 1901, the Welsh Pony & Cob Society is the original breed society for Welsh ponies and cobs and is now the largest native breed society in Britain, with members and affiliated organisations across the world. As a registered charity, the Society has spent the past 125 years preserving, promoting and improving the Welsh breeds.
The anniversary event brought together breeders, exhibitors and enthusiasts to celebrate 125 years of the Welsh Pony & Cob Society and the continued success of the Welsh breeds.
RWAS Chief Executive, Aled Rhys Jones, said:
“The Royal Welsh Agricultural Society has enjoyed a longstanding relationship with the Welsh Pony & Cob Society, and we were proud to host its 125th anniversary celebrations here at the showground.
The Welsh breeds are an important part of our agricultural and equestrian heritage, and the WPCS has played a vital role in preserving and promoting them over the past 125 years. We look forward to continuing to support the Society and its members in the years ahead.”
Looking ahead, preparations are already underway for the Royal Welsh Winter Fair, which returns to the showground on 30 November and 1 December. Judges for the equine section have now been confirmed, with the full list available on the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society website.
The Royal Welsh Winter Fair is one of the Europe’s leading prime stock events, bringing together top-class livestock, displays, festive attractions and Christmas shopping, drawing thousands of visitors each year. Tickets will be on sale in September.
