Tories accused of hypocrisy after UK Government vote against Six Nations Free-to-Air coverage

RESPONDING to the Conservatives’ debate in the Senedd on Six Nations Free-to-Air coverage, Plaid Cymru spokesperson for Culture, Heledd Fychan MS said:

“The irony is not lost on Plaid Cymru that on the eve of this debate tabled by the Conservatives calling for the Six Nations broadcasting to remain free to air, every single one of their colleagues in Westminster voted against exactly that.

“It is characteristic of their failure to understand and appreciate Wales and its people.

“Rugby isn’t just a game here, it is central to our culture and identity – from grassroots level to the international game. Free coverage inspires countless young Welsh women and men to pursue their ambitions in the game.

“Ultimately, this short-sighted decision in Westminster demonstrates perfectly why broadcasting must be devolved to Wales. We must be able to make decisions for Wales, in Wales.”
