Swansea A-level Students Celebrate Excellent Results

In Swansea 34.2% of students achieved the top A*-A grades compared with 29.6%across Wales.

The overall pass rate (grades A* to E) of 97.4%compares with the Welsh average of 97.7%.

Overall,80% of grades were C or better in Swansea compared with 77.6% nationally.

More than 600 young people from Swansea’s schools with sixth forms were waiting to find out how they had performed in examinations that are important to their ambitions of progressing to university, further education, training or employment.

Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Education and Learning, Robert Smith, said: “All our A-Level students deserve huge congratulations for their achievements this year.

“Their success reflects their hard work, determination and commitment throughout their studies.

“I would also like to thank our schools, teachers, support staff and families for the encouragement and guidance they have provided.

“I wish all our young people every success for the future with whatever they are doing next.”

Swansea results quoted refer only to WJEC subjects used by Swansea schools and do not include results for other awarding bodies or Gower College Swansea.

Summary of Swansea Schools A-Level Results 2026

  • 603 year 13 students had 1,417 entries for 30 different A-level subjects in summer 2026.
  • 34.2% of grades awarded to Swansea students were at the top A* and A grades – significantly above the Welsh average of 29.6%.
  • 11.6% of Swansea results were at the highest A* grade – this was above the Welsh average of 10.7%.
  • The overall pass rate of 97.4% for Swansea schools was slightly below the Welsh average of 97.7%.
  • In 19 of the 30 subject areas, Swansea students scored a 100% pass rate.
  • The most popular A-level subjects in Swansea this year were Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Psychology, Art & Design, English Literature and History.  These all had 70 or more entries, with mathematics being the most popular of all with 215 entries.
