Welsh Lib Dems attack Tories over failing small businesses

Today (29th November) in the Senedd, the Welsh Liberal Democrats have accused the Conservatives of failing small businesses through their decision to leave the European Single Market.

The decision to leave the European Single Market has resulted in many small businesses across Wales being dragged down by red tape that has prevented them from trading with partners on the continent.

For many Welsh entrepreneurs, like wine seller Daniel Lambert, the tight restrictions around trade has forced them to relocate their operations to the continent.

Commenting, Jane Dodds MS said:

“How can the Welsh Conservatives attempt to paint themselves as champions of small business whilst they are simultaneously stabbing them in the back?

It was the Conservative government who made the disastrous decision to leave the European Single Market, prompting a barrage of red tape that has pinned down businesses in Wales.

I call on the Welsh Government to do something that the UK Conservative Government have so far failed to do, and that’s support our small businesses by extending business rate relief.

Small businesses in Wales have had to weather an almost unbearable storm in the past few years, being left alone to deal with the fallout from Brexit, Covid closures and now a cost-of-living crisis.

It’s about time they’re given a break.”
