Welsh Lib Dems slam Welsh Gov over their approach toward improving train network across Wales

THE Welsh Liberal Democrats have slammed the Welsh Government over their directionless approach towards improving Wales train network following warnings that rail fees could rise yet again.

Last October, the Welsh Government was forced to give Transport for Wales (TFW) emergency funding totalling £125m.

TFW are now warning that rail fares will need to go up to help fund operating costs.

Commenting, leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats Jane Dodds MS said:

“During a cost-of-living crisis where many people are already struggling with affording their basic needs, the last thing we need is to see rail fares increase.

Ask any commuter in Wales who uses the trains to travel back and forth from work about their experiences and you will be told countless horror stories of delayed trains and cancellations.

How can we expect people to pay extra for a service they are barely receiving in the first place? When will Welsh Labour get their act together and start thinking about how we can improve our rail network?

They can blame a lack of funding from the UK Conservative government, who themselves have wasted billions on a failed pet project, but the fact remains that very little has been done to improve our rail services. Particularly in Mid Wales where a reliable train service is practically non-existent.

A better-connected Wales is a more prosperous Wales, it’s high time the Welsh Labour government and their Plaid Cymru partners realise this.”
