Swansea Council offer discounted ways to park at council-operated car parks

SHOPPERS, city centre businesses and their staff are being offered discounted ways to park at council-operated car parks
Swansea Council is also working with Swansea BID to enable its members to apply for 700 low-cost parking season tickets, meaning each season ticket holder can park in the city centre for the equivalent of just £1.35 a day.

Park and Ride services are also remaining £1 a day car parking at both sites, allowing for the driver and three passengers to benefit from the cheap transport service into the city centre.

Russell Greenslade, director of BID, welcomed Swansea Council’s latest action on car parking.

He said: “I am really pleased we were able to work in collaboration with Swansea Council to provide feedback and input into these latest new city centre parking offers.

“It’s always beneficial for local organisations to work together to improve a city’s economic and cultural vitality.

“We welcome the council’s changes and see the new parking prices as a positive step towards attracting more visitors to the city centre and supporting our workers. We envisage that these changes will make the city centre a more accessible and appealing destination.

“This shows how collaboration between local organisations and local government can be very beneficial for a city’s overall development and success.”

Rob Stewart, Leader of the Council, welcomed BID’s feedback on changes to car parking offers that aim to benefit shoppers, city centre workers and businesses alike.

Cllr Stewart said businesses can apply for permits for their staff to the council’s car parking team right away so they could feel the benefits of the changes in their pockets right away.

He said: “Cabinet will seek to approve the 1-2-3 offer when they meet in May and we will work with contractors who will re-configure the parking payment machines in our city centre so the new tariffs are available as quickly as possible.

“In the meantime shoppers and city centre workers still have access to the £1 a day parking offer at Park and Ride. The public can also continue to apply for a range of season tickets which provide cheaper all-day parking if they need to park for longer than three hours.

He added: “We are doing everything we can to continue to support the people and local businesses in Swansea and these discounts will make a huge difference to those working and shopping in the city centre.”
