“Wales should have the power to uphold our own values as a country” – Rhun ap Iorwerth MS

RESPONDING to the news that the High Court has ruled that the ‘routine’ housing of unaccompanied child asylum seekers in Home Office hotels is unlawful, Leader of Plaid Cymru, Rhun ap Iorwerth MS said:

“Plaid Cymru condemns actions that undermine the rights of unaccompanied asylum-seeker children and young people. This includes housing them in Home Office hotels – a practice which we now learn is, in fact, unlawful.

“The approach of this cruel Tory Westminster government has for too long been shamefully incompatible with the child-first, migrant-second approach that upholds the best interests and rights of children in Wales.

“Westminster is not working for Wales, and we should have the powers to uphold our own values as a country.”
