Reform UK Wales: Backing Real Jobs for Wales

Reform UK Wales has today reaffirmed its strong commitment to supporting industry and manufacturing across Wales. Only Reform offers the practical, pro-growth policies needed to reindustrialise the Welsh economy, create high-skilled well-paid jobs and put local businesses and workers first.
Wales has a proud industrial heritage, but years of Labour rule in Cardiff Bay, combined with sky-high energy costs, excessive bureaucracy and net-zero ideology, have held back businesses and communities. In Carmarthenshire, where manufacturing, food processing, engineering and energy-intensive sectors play a vital role alongside agriculture, Reform UK Wales will cut costs, reduce red tape and deliver the conditions for businesses to invest, expand and thrive.
Reform UK Wales Plan to Support Industry and Manufacturing includes:
  • Cheaper, reliable energy for industry: End wasteful net-zero subsidies and targets that drive up bills. Prioritise affordable, secure domestic energy production, to help manufacturers and businesses in Carmarthenshire compete on the world stage.
  • Slash red tape and bureaucracy: Reduce unnecessary regulation from bodies like Natural Resources Wales, freeing businesses to focus on production and job creation rather than endless paperwork.
  • Procurement that backs Welsh firms: Ensure public contracts favour local Welsh and British manufacturers and suppliers, strengthening supply chains and keeping jobs in Carmarthenshire.
  • Support for SMEs and manufacturers:  Reform business rates and introduce targeted incentives to encourage entrepreneurship, investment and expansion.
  • Vocational skills and apprenticeships: Deliver training that matches the real needs of industry so young people in Carmarthenshire can build careers in engineering, manufacturing and advanced sectors without having to leave the county.
  • Practical reindustrialisation: Protect existing industrial capacity and promote growth in advanced manufacturing, food processing and light industry, while opposing unrealistic green policies that threaten jobs and competitiveness.
  • Better infrastructure: Prioritise road improvements, digital connectivity and sensible planning rules to support business expansion in both rural and industrial areas.
Christopher Brooke, Reform UK candidate for Sir Gaerfyrddin and retired engineer with 46 years’ experience in high-speed industrial manufacturing, said:
“Having spent my entire working life in manufacturing, I’ve seen first-hand what happens when governments get out of the way and let businesses do what they do best. In Carmarthenshire and across Wales, high energy costs, mountains of red tape and ideological net-zero rules are strangling industry and driving jobs away. Reform UK Wales is the only common sense party that will back our manufacturers and small businesses properly. We will deliver cheaper energy, cut bureaucracy, prioritise Welsh producers and give our young people the skills they need for well-paid industrial careers. It’s time to stop the decline and start rebuilding a strong, productive economy that puts the people of Carmarthenshire and Wales first.

“Reform UK Wales believes a thriving industrial and manufacturing sector is essential for economic resilience, skilled employment and community prosperity. By choosing practical common sense over ideology, we can restore Wales’ proud industrial tradition and deliver real growth for every part of Carmarthenshire.

“Only Reform UK has the courage to stand up for Welsh industry and put local jobs and businesses first.”
