A former police officer has today been sentenced having previously been found guilty of Assault at Mold Crown Court.
Former DC Thomas Coppack, who resigned from the force after being found guilty was charged with Assault causing actual bodily harm and Intentional strangulation. He was found not guilty in relation to the charge of Intentional Strangulation.
Today, he was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment suspended for 18 months. He was also made the subject of a Rehabilitation order, must undertake 80hrs unpaid work and pay £1,000 costs. The Court also imposed a Restraining Order for 3 years.
Speaking after today’s proceedings, Deputy Chief Constable Nigel Harrison said: “We acknowledge today’s sentence. As part of our formal processes, the former officer will now be subject to a misconduct hearing.
“As I have previously stated, this type of conduct can seriously undermine public trust and confidence, but I hope this case demonstrates to victims of violence against women and girls (VAWG) that when they come forward, they will be listened to and supported.
“We will not shy away from prosecuting those that commit such crimes.”
