At 5.19pm on 11 August, Angle RNLI crew were tasked alongside Dale, St Govan’s and Tenby Coastguard Rescue Teams, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service and Milford Haven Harbour Patrol to assist Dyfed Powys Police following the discovery of a car in the water at Cosheston Pill.
With it being unconfirmed whether or not there were any occupants inside, the lifeboat launched shortly after and began making best speed to the area.
Once on scene, the crew found the car to be nearly fully submerged with only the roof visible. The lifeboats inflatable Y boat was deployed to head in and crew members began using tools in an attempt to break the windows and confirm if there were any occupants inside.
The vehicle was searched as best as possible with nothing found but with the front windows smashed upon arrival there was concern that a person may have been ejected from the vehicle.
With this, the Y boat was tasked to conduct a thorough search of the shoreline within Cosheston Pill while the all-weather lifeboat would conduct a shoreline search from the entrance of Cosheston Pill up to Mill Bay to the east and the Cleddau Bridge to the west encompassing both banks.
With nothing found from the initial search, the Y boat returned to the vehicle as the tide began to ebb and the all-weather lifeboat acted as a goal keeper at the entrance of Cosheston Pill.
At 7.30pm with searches completed, the crew were stood down. The lifeboat was back alongside her berth and ready for further service by 7.50pm.
