Oriel Myrddin Gallery set to reopen following major redevelopment

This month marks a new chapter for Oriel Myrddin as the gallery in Carmarthen reopens following a major redevelopment, relaunching on 22 November 2025 with the exhibition GWRACH | WITCH Clive Hicks-Jenkins: A Fairy Tale Retold.

Gwrach | Witch | Clive Hicks-Jenkins: A Fairy Tale Retold invites you into the enchanted vision of one of Wales’ most esteemed artists, whose work brings a new depth to the beloved fairy tale of Hansel & Gretel. This immersive exhibition conjures a spellbinding retelling, blending Welsh folklore with handcrafted artistry to guide visitors through a landscape of mystery and magic.

Oriel Myrddin is Southwest Wales’s leading space for contemporary visual arts and craft. The major redevelopment will create a bold, inspiring public space that celebrates imagination, skill and creative exchange. There is also set to be an exciting new public cafe, which can be enjoyed by both residents and visitors to Carmarthen.

“Re-opening Oriel Myrddin is a milestone for Carmarthen and for contemporary art in Wales. On behalf of the Trustees, I want to thank Carmarthenshire County Council and the Arts Council of Wales for their leadership and investment, and our many partners, contractors and supporters who helped deliver this redevelopment.

As an independent CIO, we’re reopening to provide a welcoming, accessible platform for artists and communities – showcasing ambitious exhibitions, supporting Welsh makers through our shop, and offering learning and participation for people of all ages. We’re thrilled to start this new chapter on 22 November and to invite everyone to come in, explore, and make the gallery their own.” – Angharad Jones-Leefe, Chair, Oriel Myrddin CIO.

As part of the reopening, the gallery is recruiting for a number of important part time and full time roles to help deliver an exceptional visitor experience. Could you play an important role in Oriel Myrddin’s exciting new chapter? Visit www.orielmyrddingallery.co.uk for more information.

“Oriel Myrddin CIO is now an independent charity in its own right, but retains a close working relationship with our local authority partner. We’re here thanks to Carmarthenshire County Council’s vision, and the multi-million-pound investment by CCC and the Arts Council of Wales, which created the conditions for a new independent charity and entrusted the former School of Art to our care. Now modernised, this much-loved building gives us increased space and infrastructure to show and make great art.”
