Carmarthenshire County Council has today (16 June 2026) issued statutory notices, in accordance with Section 43 of the School Standards and Organisation Act 2013, proposing the discontinuation of Ysgol Meidrim and Ysgol Y Fro.
Members of the public may submit objections within 28 days of the date of publication until 14 July 2026. Objections can be made by completing the online surveys on Ysgol Meidrim and Ysgol Y Fro; via email – MEPConsultations@carmarthenshire.gov.uk or in writing to:

The decision to issue statutory notices to Ysgol Meidrim and Ysgol Y Fro was agreed at a meeting of Carmarthenshire County Council’s Cabinet on Monday 1 June 2026.
If approved, the proposals will take effect from 31 December 2026.
From 1 January 2027, it is proposed that current Ysgol Meidrim pupils attend Ysgol Griffith Jones or Ysgol Hafodwenog, subject to parental preference and the Council’s admissions arrangements. It is also proposed that the catchment area of Ysgol Gynradd Meidrim be re-designated and included within the existing catchment areas of Ysgol Griffith Jones and Ysgol Bancyfelin.
From the 1 January 2027, it is proposed that current Ysgol Y Fro pupils attend Ysgol Y Dderwen, subject to parental preference and the Council’s admissions arrangements and that the catchment area of Ysgol Y Fro be re-designated and included within the existing catchment areas of the following schools: Llangunnor Primary School, Llanddarog VC Primary School, Ferryside VC Primary School, Gwynfryn Primary School, Ysgol Gymraeg Gwenllian, Ysgol Gynradd Mynyddygarreg and Ysgol Y Castell.
Both Ysgol Meidrim and Ysgol Y Fro have been identified based on viability criteria set out within the Modernising Education Programme, approved by Cabinet in 18 November 2024.
