Student joins Hyperlocal Carmarthenshire News for work placement

It is always great to know that young people are reading our content. It is also very encouraging when some of these young people come to us for work experience. In the past we have accommodated a number of young journalists who have been either starting out in their career or just interested in testing the water.

One of our former trainees is now travelling the world as part of the World famous Red Arrows display team. His photographs have won him awards and have graced the front pages of numerous newspapers.

We all have to start somewhere and today we welcome 17-year-old Cellan Davies from Llangennech.

Cellan attends Stradey School in Llanelli where he studies geography, history and politics. He is hoping to work within the media industry in Wales.

Cellan found out about our news outlet online. He said” I thought it would be a unique experience to write articles online and so I applied for work experience. So far I have enjoyed it. It is easy to process information. I am particularly interested in Welsh language and politics. I am looking forward to getting items published and getting involved in my local community.

Cellan said that he believed there was a lack of opportunities for Welsh language reporters in the media in Wales. As a Welsh first language speaker Cellan has welcomed the opportunity to work for Carmarthenshire News Online because we process so much Welsh language content news.

Cellan will be working with us all of this week. If you have a news story you would like him to report on please email him: cellan@carmarthenshirenewsonline.com

Cellan will be working alongside recent media graduate Elkanah Evans (r) who graduated from Aberystwyth University recently. Elkanah has already spent a significant amount of time with us on placement and has covered a large number of stories. His expertise lies in multimedia content creation and editing.
