A 73-year-old farmer has appeared before Llanelli Magistrates’ Court charged after failing on numerous accounts to take effective action against the spread of TB between animals he kept on his farm in 2021.
The court heard that on or before 10/11/2021 at New Quay, being the keeper of bovine animals on premises at Coybal Farm, New Quay, Ceredigion, SA45 9TU upon which a bovine animal was kept which a veterinary inspector was satisfied was an affected or suspected animal.
Brunt failed to comply with a notice served upon him, as the keeper, to arrange for the isolation of the bovine animals specified in the notice on a specified part or parts of the premises in that Brunt failed to isolate 9 bovines, ear tag numbers UK743507102216, UK743507202182, UK743507502192, UK743507602221, UK743507602228, UK743507702131, UK743507702138, UK743507702180, UK743507102209. Contrary to article 18(1)(e) of the Tuberculosis (Wales) Order 2010 and sections 73 and 75 of the Animal Health Act 1981.
Brunt pleaded guilty and was fined £7000 and ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £190.00 and costs of £9000.
Brunt’s guilty plea was taken into account when the sentence was imposed.
The court also heard that on 10/11/2021, Brunt failed to comply with all reasonable requirements of an inspector or approved
veterinary surgeon, with a view to facilitating their removal for slaughter. Contrary to article 12(2)(d) of the Tuberculosis (Wales) Order 2010 and sections
73 and 75 of the Animal Health Act 1981.
Brunt pleaded guilty and was fined £2000.
Brunt’s guilty plea was taken into account when the sentence was imposed.
In total, Brunt was fined £18,190.00.
