Llandovery Sheep Festival to return bigger and better next September

Llandovery Sheep Festival will be back – bigger and better next September – ewe herd it here first! Next year’s event wool take place over the weekend of the 14 and 15 September 2024.

The festival will be a huge celebration of rural crafts, food and entertainment, held in Llandovery town centre. The weekend-long event will also celebrate old drovers’ trails, sheep farming and the wool industry.

Rachel Everett, the Chairman of the Llandovery Sheep Festival would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who made this year’s Sheep Festival a terrific success. “Thank you to all the exhibitors who demonstrated the superb range of quality crafts and food producers in Carmarthenshire. To all the magnificent performers who battled the unfriendly weather to keep us entertained and upbeat. To all the valiant volunteers who dedicated hours, days and weeks to make sure the festival ran without a hitch. Lastly, but most importantly, my thanks go to all the visitors who came along and made the event one that we all enjoyed taking part in. We hope to see you all again next year.”

The Llandovery Sheep Festival has gone from strength to strength since its inception in 2010. It is an event that’s been wholeheartedly embraced by the people of Llandovery and its success is very much a reflection of that. Events such as this are important to the agricultural community, not only in terms of bringing people together, but also in terms of showcasing the best of local produce, goods and services.

Planning has already begun for the 2024 event and the organising committee are very excited with plans to include getting the younger people of the area more involved in the run up to the event; fun fundraising events in the coming months and the possibility of a sheep themed horticulture competition.

Rachel added, “The concept behind this community led festival is to showcase the best of Llandovery, to share its cultural identity and historical past through the promotion of the wool industry and the local farming economy.”

Keep an eye on Llandovery Sheep Festival’s Facebook page for information on fundraising events happening over the coming months.
