Team Evans to take on Llanelli 10k

Team Evans is taking on the Llanelli 10k to raise funds for Ty Bryngwyn Hospice at Prince Philip Hospital.

Taking place on 25th Feburary 2024, the Llanelli 10k & Half Marathon offers a scenic run along the beautiful Millennium coastal path.

Six members of Team Evans – Charlotte Evans, Finley Ellar, Sian Davies, Rhiannon Daniel, Amanda Jenkins and Nathan Phillips – are running the Llanelli 10k in memory of Wayne Evans.

Wayne, who sadly passed away last year, passionately fundraised for the chemotherapy unit at Prince Philip Hospital as a thank you for the outstanding care he received, and completed the Wales 5k run at the Long Course Weekend with a team of family and friends in July 2023.

Charlotte Evans, Wayne’s wife, said: “On Sunday 25th February, myself and a few friends will run the Llanelli 10k as Team Evans and for Team Hywel Dda in memory of my husband, Wayne Evans.

“We are raising funds for Ty Bryngwyn Hospice based at Prince Phillip Hospital. The hospice supplies vital palliative care and support to patients and their families.

“Wayne was an inpatient for a few days just a week before we sadly lost him. The unit and the palliative team were amazing. The palliative team have kept in contact with us as a family during and since.

“If you would like to support us by donating as little as £1, we would be eternally grateful. Or if you would like to join us as Team Evans and Team Hywel Dda then please do so.”

Nathan Phillips, friend of Wayne, said: “Hywel Dda has helped me so much over the last year including the excellent treatment for the best mate you could ask for: Wayne Evans, and then recently the birth of my newly-born daughter Isabella.

“I made a promise to Wayne that I wouldn’t stop training and racing, which we always used to together. I also want to continue what he always did, and that was helping others and having a huge impact on people’s lives, always in a positive way.”

Finley Ellar, boyfriend of Wayne’s daughter, said: “This 10k is personal to me as I looked up to Wayne, he was an inspiration to me, he never gave up in both sport and health.

“Taking part in the 10k is just showing how much he meant to me, and it demonstrates the belief that I can achieve anything if I put my mind to it, which is what he gave me. Although gone, he will never be forgotten.”

Nicola Llewellyn, Head of Hywel Dda Health Charities, the official charity of Hywel Dda University Health Board, said: “We send a huge thank you and good luck to Team Evans who have tirelessly fundraised for services in Prince Philip Hospital.

“The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive.”
