Christmas lights extravaganza raises thousands for Great Ormond Street Hospital

WEEKS of work and a love for Christmas transformed a home in Hendy into an incredible Christmas wonderland inside and out and culminated in over £7,000 being handed over to Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Local businessman Richard O’Brien and his wife Lisa and family decorated their home with an enormous collection of Christmas decorations, which wowed visitors from far and wide.

The couple admit to being Christmas mad but for a very good reason. Their young son was born with a visual impairment and was treated at the Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.

Mrs O’Brien said that she just wanted to give something back and raise money.

People queued up over Christmas just to see the amazing light show. The couple opened their home every Saturday and Sunday and asked for donations.

Lisa wanted  to support the work of the Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital as her 2-year-old son Richard Jnr was born with a visual impairment. Richard Jnr now has some sight.

The couple travelled to London recently to hand over a cheque for £7,050, which was gratefully received by hospital staff.

Mr O’Brien runs a local business and has not ruled out decorating the home again next Christmas even bigger and better.
