Economic impact of Tata job losses felt for years to come says Council opposition leader

Cllr Rob James, Opposition Leader on Carmarthenshire Council stated “Today’s announcement from Tata steel is a hammer blow for workers both in Port Talbot and Llanelli.

“Tata employ thousands of workers in the region and economic impact of today’s announcement will be felt for many years to come.

“We could expand steel capacity in Wales to meet the growing demand for steel. We could ensure the UK doesn’t end up relying further on imports. But the steel owners and the UK Government instead want to slash production and jobs.

“We will stand shoulder to shoulder with Carmarthenshire steel workers during this difficult time.”
