Llanelli Pride got underway on, Friday (Jul 14). With the event continuing throughout the weekend at the Selwyn Samuel Centre, EJ’s and around People’s Park in Llanelli.
Hundreds of people joined in the celebrations and the centre was transformed into a rainbow fest of colour. It has been a roaring success so far according to the organisers.
There was plenty on offer for people attending the event, which had taken almost a year of work for the organisers to bring it all together.
Paul Francis who runs the centre said that there was a committee of almost 80 people involved in the organisation .
Speaking to Dave Hurford Mr Francis (pictured) who is the Chair said that no matter what you are and who you are there was something there for you.
Mr Francis said that the first year was the year before Covid and we hit 27,500 people. He said that this year the numbers were good. On Friday there was a proms event with the parade on Saturday and a church service on Sunday with 8 churches coming together and a rock band at EJ’s.
“It is going to be a fantastic weekend,” said Mr Francis. He also said it was one of the only free pride events in the Wales of this size. “The moment it becomes chargeable is the day we will stop,” he said.
