Schoolgirl raises over £600 for stroke ward

10-year-old fundraiser Emily Pegram sold cups, coasters, clocks, tea towels with her prints on them as well as homemade jewellery and raised a fantastic £653 for Ward 9 at Prince Philip Hospital.

Using her creativity, Emily made prints on canvases with acrylic paint. With the help of her mother, Sandra, she then put the prints onto cups, coasters, clocks and tea towels.

Emily also made earrings, necklaces, keyrings and bookmarks, which she sold to friends and family. She also held stalls at Glangwili and Prince Philip hospitals as well as a stand in a boot sale in Cross Hands.

Emily said: “My Uncle Keith had a major stroke in January 2023 and spent four months on Ward 9 at Prince Philip Hospital. Following his stroke, his life has changed massively.

“During his stay on Ward 9, he received excellent care and as part of his rehabilitation he used a bike, which all the patients liked to use. However, there is only one bike. I have been trying to raise money for a second bike for the patients.

“Thank you to the staff on the Special Care Baby Unit, Ward 9 and Mummy, Daddy and Uncle Keith for supporting me in my challenge.”

Nicola Llewellyn, Head of Hywel Dda Health Charities, the official charity of Hywel Dda University Health Board, said: “We’d like to say a massive thank you to Emily for putting in a fantastic effort into raising funds for Ward 9.

“The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive.”
