Sculptor Creates Pheonix Out of Ashes of Old School

A sculptor who  rescued wood from an old school in Pembrey Llanelli has been used to create a stunning sculpture of a phoenix which has been presented to the staff and children of the new school.

Pembrey School was knocked down to make way for a brand new school which opened a year ago and sculptor Mark Mumford decided to rescue some of the wood from the old school. He transformed that into a beautiful sculpture of a phoenix.

Mark said: “Our now one year old today Pembrey School has a new wonderful permanent resident. I presented to the school my sculpture of a beautiful colourful mythical Phoenix. It was made almost entirely from wood I rescued from the old school.

“The Phoenix is a symbol of rebirth, and is now a permanent link to the much loved old school. I firmly believe the children, school staff and the board of governors love the new member of the community.”

The phoenix was presented to the school at an event on February 20th.
