Wishes, Wands and Whistles: Halloween Comes to Llanelli’s Heritage Railway

The Llanelli and Mynydd Mawr Railway will once again embrace the Halloween spirit this autumn with a family-friendly event at its Cynheidre base on Sunday, 26 October 2025, from 3pm to 7pm.

Visitors can look forward to a range of themed activities, including unlimited spooky train rides, a Haunted House, and a scavenger hunt. Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes, while younger guests can enjoy interactive storytelling sessions with Emberkind, who will be presenting Spooky Story Time — a set of woodland tales held at two intervals during the afternoon.

One of the highlights of the day will be Send a Wish into the Magic Flame, where children will be invited to write a wish on a small envelope and watch as it transforms the fire’s colours when added to the flames.

Additional hands-on activities will also be available, such as willow wand making, a Trick or Treat Lucky Dip, and marshmallow toasting in the woods. These activities require event tokens, which cost £1 each and can be purchased in advance or on the day.

Admission is £10 for adults and children, and £9 for senior citizens. Each adult and senior ticket includes a Halloween-themed cupcake, while children receive a cupcake and a small juice carton. Further refreshments will be available from the on-site SuperSprinter Café.

Tickets can be booked through TicketSource at www.ticketsource.co.uk/llanellirailway, and further information is available at www.llanellirailway.co.uk or via the railway’s official Facebook page at facebook.com/llanellirailway.

The Llanelli and Mynydd Mawr Railway is operated entirely by volunteers and occupies the site of the former Cynheidre Colliery, running along part of the historic Llanelli Tramroad — one of the world’s oldest railway routes. The organisation is currently seeking new volunteers to assist with operations, maintenance, restoration, and administration as it continues to expand as a heritage attraction in the Llanelli district.

Those interested in supporting or volunteering with the railway can find details on the organisation’s website or social media channels.

Please note that all attractions are subject to availability, and event arrangements may be altered at short notice if necessary.
