| An Agrisgôp group, led by Rhian Jones, who is also a Regional Champion for the DPJ Foundation, brought together nine farmers from a mix of beef, sheep, dairy and poultry enterprises to explore how to improve mental health within the farming community. |
| As one of Farming Connect’s longest-running services, Agrisgôp has been supporting farmers and growers since 2003 to work together to solve real business challenges. This fully funded, farmer-led service brings small groups of like-minded individuals together to develop ideas, explore opportunities, and drive projects forward in a supportive and practical environment.
Through a combination of peer discussion, practical activities and expert input, members of the group shared personal experiences and identified common stressors, while developing coping strategies such as increasing social interaction, physical activity, and adopting more positive mindsets.
The group took part in a range of practical sessions, including visiting a farm-based fitness initiative, trying mindfulness techniques, and exploring the role of diet, hydration, and lifestyle changes in supporting wellbeing. Guest speakers provided insights into resilience, behaviour change, counselling, and mental health awareness, alongside guidance on recognising signs of poor mental health and supporting others. Throughout the programme, members reflected on their own behaviours, set personal action points, and trialled new approaches such as gym sessions, yoga and improved nutrition. For Ffion, one of the most significant changes was joining a gym after recognising she needed something outside of the farm that was just for herself.
Overall, the group combined shared learning and practical action to help participants better understand and manage their own mental health, while strengthening their ability to support others within the farming community.
She believes that looking after your mental health is just as important as looking after the farm and small changes or reaching out to others can make a big difference.
