Cabinet member for regeneration appointed for Carmarthenshire

CLLR. Hazel Evans has been appointed as Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Leisure, Culture and Tourism for Carmarthenshire County Council at a meeting of the County Council on Wednesday, 13 September 2023.

Cllr. Hazel Evans takes over the role of Cabinet Member from Cllr. Gareth John, who has been appointed the Chair of the Health and Social Services Scrutiny Committee.

Cllr. Hazel Evans was first elected to Carmarthenshire County Council in May 2010 and served as the Executive Board Member (now referred to as Cabinet Member) for the Environment from 2015 until 2022. Since Cllr Evans’ re-election in 2022, she has been the Chair of the Health and Social Services Scrutiny Committee and has served on the Democratic Services Committee, Corporate Performance and Resources Scrutiny Committee and Appointments Committee A&B.

Alongside her work as a County Councillor, Cllr. Evans is also the Chair of St David’s Diocesan Board of Finance, Church Treasurer of Holy Trinity Newcastle Emlyn and is the current Mayor of Newcastle Emlyn.

Cllr. Evans is an avid supporter of the Scarlets and served as the President of Newcastle Emlyn Rugby Club between 2002 and 2016.
