A CONSULTATION where people in Wales can help to shape proposals to modernise and improve animal welfare is now open.
The consultation is the first step in a process to create a national model for Wales, which would regulate standards and strengthen animal welfare.
The consultation explores how animal activities- such as pet day care, pet groomers and dog play parks- are currently regulated and licensed in Wales, and how these processes could be made better.
Following high public interest, greyhound racing is one of the 12 topics people will be asked their views on.
Rebecca Evans MS, Member of the Senedd for Gower said:
“Giving animals a good life is important to many of us. We want to ensure that the spaces animals are spending time in and the services we are leaving our pets with are as safe and as positive for their health and welfare as possible.
“The Welsh Government are keen to get this right and need your views and experiences to do so.
“I would encourage anyone with a pet or an interest in animal rights to write in and have their say in the current consultation”.
The consultation will be open for 12 weeks, closing on March 1st 2024.
