Residents across Mid and West Wales are being encouraged to take advantage of a free Safe and Well Visit offered by their local fire service.
The visits are available to everyone and are designed to help keep people safe in their homes. Alongside a comprehensive home fire safety check, firefighters provide practical advice on a range of issues that can help improve residents’ wellbeing and security.
As part of the visit, advice can be given on:
- Smoking cessation
- Home security
- Falls prevention
- Scam awareness
- Tackling loneliness and isolation

The safety checker is an easy-to-follow tool developed through a partnership between the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC), Fire Kills and Safelincs. The checker guides users through their home one room at a time, helping them identify potential fire risks and providing practical advice on how to reduce them. Once completed, users receive a personalised fire safety action plan to help keep themselves and their households safe from fire.
A key message of the campaign is the importance of having at least one working smoke alarm on every floor of the home and testing alarms regularly. Fire Kills also aims to raise awareness of common fire risks and everyday accidents that are among the leading causes of domestic fires in the UK, particularly among vulnerable groups.

The provision of smoke alarms and other home safety items by Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service is supported by funding from the Welsh Government.
