Lesbians march in Cardiff to mark Lesbian Visibility Week

Around 80 lesbians marched in Cardiff City Centre on Saturday (April 27, 2024) chanting “lesbian power, lesbian visibility” to mark Lesbian Visibility Week.

According to a statement issued by the organisers, the purpose of the march was to celebrate lesbian resilience and resistance, to protest the Welsh Government’s breach of the Equality Act by accepting males who identify as “transwomen” as women onto electoral lists for women, and to appreciate Dr Hilary Cass’ report to the NHS.

Liane, one of the march’s organisers said: “There is an enormous pressure on girls who do not comply with sexist stereotypes of femininity, in particular on lesbian girls, to transition.” According to Liane: “We are still facing erasure and silencing when we insist that lesbians are biological females who are attracted to other biological females”.

“We are proud to be lesbians and we are proud to be marching together” she concluded.
