Welsh Conservative Party Conference – Powys Electorate Rejected Conservatives

Commenting on the decision for the Welsh Conservatives to hold their Welsh Party Conference in Newtown, Powys, Welsh Liberal Democrat Leader Jane Dodds MS said:

“The local elections earlier this month show us the Welsh Conservatives are a political party in retreat. Across Wales, they lost over 80 seats.

“It is somewhat ironic that they have chosen to host their conference in Powys, where the voters rejected their policy platform in spades and in Newtown specifically, where the Liberal Democrats won both the popular vote and the majority of seats.

“It is even more surprising they have chosen to make Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak their guests of honour when we heard time and time again during the elections that both Sunak and Johnson’s lack of credibility on the cost-of-living crisis was one of the main reasons voters were switching from the Conservatives to the Liberal Democrats.
