BUDDING artists of all ages are getting the chance to come together and learn new skills in a packed summer programme at Glynn Vivian Art Gallery.
The city art gallery is throwing open its doors for Summer Sundays featuring creative workshops and play and afternoon family films with even more to do during the week as well.
Wednesdays are being handed over to workshops offering new skills in painting, sculpture and embroidery, while Thursdays will be offering youngsters the chance to go on magical journeys of the imagination, creating forests and mountains to explore.
Elliott King, Cabinet Member for Culture and Equalities, said that now the pandemic is over, Glynn Vivian is going back to doing what it does best – inspiring young people to get creative during the long summer holidays.
He said:
“Glynn Vivian did a brilliant job boosting interest in art during the pandemic with a range of online activities. But it’s going to be a great summer ahead for those who want to explore their creative ideas in person alongside friends backed by expert support at our workshops.
Summer Sundays will feature a new Forest School, from 10.30am- 12pm, offering the chance to learn, play and explore the natural world. All activities will take place in the gallery’s garden space, unless the weather chooses otherwise.
The Family Film Club returns on Sundays from 1pm with a different film screening each week. Call the gallery on 01792 516900 to check out what’s on.
Enthusiasts should book now for the popular ‘I can…’ workshops, taking place every Wednesday from 10.30am – 12pm – a series of fun introductory sessions to basic print-making, painting, sculpture and embroidery.
And every week on Thursdays Glynn Viv will be hosting Magical Forest and Mystical Mountains workshops, an opportunity to collaborate to create a fantastical, super-sized, magical forest-scape installation. Sessions take place 10.30am – 12pm and 1.30pm – 3pm.
Also on show over the summer will be the On Your Face collective; a group of LGBTQ+ creatives from Wales, whose exhibition, Queer Reflections, is currently on display at the Gallery.
You can join some of the exhibiting artists in clay making workshops, creative writing sessions, talks, discussions and film screenings throughout August and September. See the gallery’s website for the full programme.
