ROCU looks to raise awareness of romance scams

TARIAN Regional Organised Crime Unit (ROCU) is looking to raise awareness of what romance scams are and the methodology used by the criminals who conduct them. We have an officer from our regional organised crime unit who is willing to be interviewed on, or ahead of, the 3rd of October. They will be able to explain why romance scams are harmful, the impact they can cause to the victim and their loved ones, what the police are doing to tackle the threat, and give statistics from our region (southern Wales).

Tuesday 3 October is World Romance Scam Prevention Day. Romance scams are committed by criminals who begin a friendship or allude to a romantic relationship with an individual with the intention of stealing their money. The connection is usually made online or through the use of technology.

Please contact tariancommunications@south-wales.police.uk if you would be interested in interviewing our officer.
