Former consultant for Morriston ED recognised in New Year’s Honours

A FORMER consultant for Morriston’s Emergency Department has been recognised in the King’s New Year’s Honour’s List. Swansea Bay issued a statement congratulating the young doctor who has been described as the driving force behind the flying medics service:

Many congratulations from all of us at Swansea Bay to former Morriston Emergency Department consultant Dr Dinendra Gill, who has been recognised in the New Year’s Honours.

Dr Gill was the the driving force behind the ‘flying medics’ service with Wales Air Ambulance, and has now been awarded an OBE for services to Pre-Hospital and Trauma Care in Wales.

Better known as Dindi, Dr Gill was lead for trauma reception and resuscitation at Morriston ED where he helped to transform the care of trauma patients. He also co-founded the critical care and transfer service which supplies specialist medical crews that fly with Wales Air Ambulance, bringing the expertise of an Emergency Department (A&E) to the scene of a medical emergency.

The Emergency Medical and Rescue Transfer Service (EMRTS), was one of the first national pre-hospital care and transfer service of its kind in the UK. Launched in 2015, its consultants and critical care practitioners will carry out time-critical emergency procedures otherwise undertaken in hospital, such as administering general anaesthetic as well as supporting patients who are experiencing life or limb-threatening circumstances.

EMRTS National Director David Lockey said: “I am delighted that Dindi has received this prestigious honour for his work in preparing for and delivering this vital service which has had such a direct and positive outcome to the lives of both patients and their relatives, here in Wales.  Warmest congratulations are sent from all his colleagues in EMRTS.”
