Persimmon Homes West Wales presented the cheque to parents, pupils, and teachers in April as they hope to put funds towards new and improved outdoor equipment, including benches.
Friends of Gowerton Primary School are a small group of volunteers who raise money throughout the year to pay for experiences, equipment, and upgrades to the school that normal budgets cannot provide. They applied to the developer’s Community Champions scheme as they are currently trying to fundraise to improve the playground facilities at the school.
They have been raising funds over the last year through a Christmas fayre where they had stall holders, a raffle, and various games to raise money. They have also been selling ice creams outside the school, holding an Easter fundraising, and planning a disco.
The five-star developer donates £48,000 across Wales each year to good causes and much-valued organisations as part of its Community Champions initiative. Recent local recipients include Wales Air Ambulance and Bridgend College Rugby Academy, which works closely with the Ospreys.
Commenting, Persimmon Homes West Wales Sales Director Sharon Bouhali, said:
“As we aim to bring new homes to yet affordable homes to Gowerton – thereby alleviating local housing pressures – it’s only natural for Persimmon to provide support to the local community, including nearby schools, along with their parents, pupils, and teachers.
“This is why we were thrilled to learn that the Friends of Gowerton Primary School applied to our Community Champions scheme. Despite the stiff competition this quarter, we are proud to have been able to offer our support.
“We eagerly anticipate the outcomes of the fundraising efforts by the school’s friends and are excited to see the positive impact this will have on the children of the town.”
A spokesperson for Friends of Gowerton Primary School, added:
“We’re thrilled that our application to Persimmon’s Community Champions scheme was successful and thank them for choosing us so we can deliver improved playground facilities for our children.
“When the school was built, there were areas of grass put in the playground but these have been worn away over time and we would really like to replace these with artificial grass, making it much safer for them.
“We would also like to buy a couple of benches for the playground as outdoor learning plays a vital part in children’s education, but at the moment there is very little seating in the playground meaning that quite often children have to return to their classrooms to complete learning tasks.
“Persimmon’s donation has really helped out fundraising efforts to deliver this vision, and we look forward to continuing that work so the school has what it needs for its pupils.”
