Jeremy Miles and Vaughan Gething nominated by MSs as candidates for First Minister

NOMINATIONS from Members of the Senedd closed at 10am today (Thursday) in the Welsh Labour Leadership election, and two candidates have received sufficient MS nominations to reach the ballot– Jeremy Miles and Vaughan Gething.

Jeremy Miles MS is the current minister of Education and Welsh Language for Wales. Jeremy Miles was appointed Minister for Education and Welsh Language on 13 May 2021. Born in Pontarddulais, the Education Minister is a fluent Welsh Speaker. He graduated in Law from New College, Oxford and used those skills to teach law in Warsaw, Poland.

Vaughan Gething MS is the current Economy Minister for Wales. Vaughan Gething was appointed as Economy Minister in May 2021. Born in Zambia and brought up in Dorest, Vaughan Gething studied at Aberystwyth and Cardiff University. He has worked as a solicitor for Thompsons. He is a member of the GMB, UNISON and Unite unions, and was the youngest ever President of the Wales TUC.

In the upcoming process of the First Minister election, MPs, Peers and Labour Group Leaders are able to make supporting nominations.
