Who ya gonna call to boost the local economy?

Who would you call to boost the local economy in your town? Politicians? Economists?

Well the simple answer is to just call the Ghostbusters, Batman, Spiderman, Transformers, Wonder Woman, The Incredibles and a few more superheroes.

In true fashion they responded and descended upon Carmarthen today to offer some excitement for locals and visitors alike as well as a much needed boost for local businesses as the visitor numbers exploded like one of The Joker’s cannisters of laughing gas.

This was another big event, which attracted people to the town and helped the local economy with people spilling into cafes and shops. There were food stalls and market stalls selling everything from Vegan food to Viggo Venn vests. There were appearances by the famous vehicles used in the blockbuster movies.

Owner of the Ghostbuster’s car Paul Harborne told us that he spent two years and £50,000 renovating the classic car turning it into a Ghostbusters replica.

Event Manager Jason Thomas said it was nice to see the town thriving. He said: “You try and get somewhere to eat in Carmarthen today it is absolute carnage. This is the way forward for events. We have four or five events left for the summer period. We have a music festival a food festival, a pop up cinema. We have over 100 traders coming into the town.”

The festival was FREE with free funfair rides offered by George Lindsay. The town was packed and there were mini superheroes everywhere. Musicians also joined in along some of the streets. It is easy to see how something so simple yet free can have a major impact on a town’s fortunes.

Batman said the town was crime free because it was full of good people. Wonder Woman said she had used a local changing room to transform into her outfit.
