34-year-old Carmarthen woman ordered to pay £75 compensation for assault on emergency services worker

34-year-old Katrina Mary James of Parc y Ffordd Johnstown Carmarthen appeared before Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (Aug 18) charged with assaulting an emergency  worker.

The court heard that on 05/07/2022 at Carmarthen James assaulted Sion Moore, an emergency worker, namely a police constable, acting in the exercise of his functions as such a worker, by beating him. Contrary to section 39 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988 and section 1 of the Assaults on Emergency Workers (Offences) Act 2018.

James pleaded guilty to the offence.

The court found that the offence was aggravated by being committed against an emergency worker acting in the exercise of functions as such.

A community order was made and James was ordered to carry out unpaid work for 100 hours within the next twelve months.

James was also ordered to pay compensation of £75.00 a surcharge to fund victim services of £114.00 and costs of £85.00 to the Crown Prosecution Service.
