Child sexually assaulted in Llanelli

A LLANELLI community is in shock after reports that a 10-year-old child was sexually assaulted in a field by another child.

Dyfed-Powys Police are investigating reports about the sexual touching of a child at Penygaer playing fields on Wednesday, September 11.
The force said it is believed the suspect is also a child, and work is being carried out to identify them.
Lliedi ward Labour town councillor Shaun Greaney said the community was horrified and shocked to learn of the attack.
‘This is clearly an awful thing to happen to anyone. But for it to happen to a child so young is terrifying,’ he said.
‘Parents are very concerned and I would urge them to take the utmost care with their children until the culprit is found and apprehended.
‘It is a terribly traumatising thing to have happened for the victim and the community’s thoughts are with them and their family.
‘We need a quick result with this investigation and the capture of the child responsible.’
He said the community was alarmed by the attack and said parents would be keeping a close eye on their children and ensuring they were accompanied to and from school in the area.
‘To think that the attacker is a child as well is very upsetting,’ said councillor Greaney.
‘It is to be hoped that they are not set on a pattern of disturbing behaviour that could result in more harm being done to others.
‘The police obviously now have to get on with their job,’ he added.
Dyfed-Powys Police appealed for anyone with information that could assist their investigation to contact them.
In a statement they said: ‘Anyone with information that could help officers with their investigation is asked to report it to Dyfed-Powys Police, either online at: https://bit.lyDPPContactOnline or by calling 101.
‘If you are deaf, hard of hearing, or speech impaired text the non emergency number on 07811 311 908.’
Anyone with information should quote reference ‘352 of the 11th’ when contacting the force.
Alternatively, contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously by calling 0800 555111, or visiting crimestoppers-uk-org.
