Dafen base for Dyfed-Powys Police wins prestigious award at NPEG

Dyfed-Powys Police’s new Police base in Dafen, Llanelli, Carmarthenshire has won a national ‘high quality estate’ award.

The National Police Estates Group (NPEG) Awards is an annual award that provides an opportunity for police forces in the U.K to showcase the quality of their work in delivering a police estate that is relevant and appropriate, demonstrates good value for money and is aesthetically pleasing.

At this year’s awards that took place earlier this Autumn, Dyfed-Powys Police won the Project or refurbishment (£5M and above) Award for their new Police estate construction in Dafen.

The £18.6m construction, which opened its doors in May this year, has been given a BREEAM excellence rating, for its sustainable credentials which include a photovoltaic solar power installation to minimise the carbon footprint of the building; a rainwater harvesting facility and electric car charging facilities.

As well as housing a new custody suite with eighteen cells, some specialist departments and facilities are based at the new policing hub as well as local response officers.

Police and Crime Commissioner Dafydd Llywelyn said: “I am delighted to announce that our newly constructed Police Station in Dafen, Llanelli has been honoured with a prestigious high quality estate award in recent weeks.

“This new build has been a significant investment which has provided us with a modern, sustainable fit for purpose policing hub and custody suite that meets the needs and expectations of modern policing.

“This achievement underlines our commitment to providing state-of-the-art facilities that not only meet the highest environmental standards but also enhance the overall effectiveness of our policing service.

“The accolade is a testament to the collaborative efforts of our dedicated Estates team and partners who have worked tirelessly over recent years to create a cutting edge, sustainable infrastructure that will serve our community for years to come.

“This recognition is a proud reflection of our ongoing commitment to excellence in policing.”

Chief Constable Richard Lewis said: “I am pleased that the new Policing base in Dafen, Llanelli has been honoured with this award.

“It is an energy efficient and sustainable construction and the custody suite is a state of the art facility which will significantly raise the standard of care being provided to detainees at the suite.

“Congratulations to PCC Mr Dafydd Llywelyn and the project team as a whole for delivering the facility to such a high standard that has led to achieving this award.”
