Demonstration set to take place following Council decision to scrap plans for new Ysgol Heol Goffa

A demonstration is set to take place on the 22nd of May, outside County Hall in Carmarthen.

The demonstration is in opposition to the decision made by the Council to scrap plans for a new school building for Ysgol Heol Goffa.

Early this week, the Council made the decision to shelve the multi-million pound plans to develop a brand new building for the special education school in Llanelli. This decision has sparked huge controversy within the community.

The existing school is outdated and many argue that it is not fit for purpose, although historically it has provided an exceptionally warm, welcoming and happy environment for pupils.

Much excitement had been expressed by the school staff, pupils and community at the news that Ysgol Heol Goffa would be moved to a new site. Now however, there is bitter disappointment and sadness over the sudden shift in the Council’s plans to deliver what the community had been eagerly anticipating.

The demonstration next week will be attended by community members as well as Dame Nia Griffith MP to voice their opposition to the decision.

Over social media, many have expressed their frustrations, with many calling for action in Llanelli as well as Carmarthen.
