Rubbish and rats blight hotel as protest continues

Carmarthenshire County Council have said that they are looking into reports of a build up of rubbish at the Stradey Park Hotel. Images on social media have shown piles of rubbish and discarded furniture outside the hotel. Local residents have responded angrily online with some reporting that there has been an increase in the number of rats in the area.

@nilsalmquist9424 said: “This is absolutely outrageous. The politicians must be made to pay severely for the destruction and betrayal of our country.”

@johnuk5160 said: “That rubbish is a fire risk, why the whole bloody building could burn, we don’t want that do we???,”

A spokesperson for Carmarthenshire County Council said: “The local authority is aware of the large build-up of refuse at the site.

“Disposal of the refuse is the responsibility of the hotel owners and our environmental health team has taken appropriate action, under the Environmental Protection Act, to abate the nuisance and comply with the legislation.

“We are aware that there has been difficulty for the owners in removing the waste and we will be formally reviewing the situation next week.”

Protests continue outside the hotel with Dyfed-Powys Police monitoring the situation. As yet no people have been accommodated at the hotel.
