Vandalism Strikes Burry Port Playground, Delaying Fun for Children

Burry Port Memorial Park Playground has fallen victim to vandalism, delaying the completion of a space designed for children and families to enjoy.

Freshly poured concrete has been ripped from a protected pit, fencing clamps have been forced open, safety signs smashed, and a makeshift cycle ramp constructed from damaged materials. This deliberate act has not only caused property damage but has also undermined the efforts of everyone involved in improving facilities for the local community.

The consequences of this vandalism are significant:

  • Delays in providing a safe, accessible playground for children.

  • Additional costs to the public, funded by the local community.

  • Erosion of trust in community projects.

  • Setbacks for parents, volunteers, and everyone who has contributed time and care to this initiative.

“This isn’t just mischief,” said Cllr Michael Thomas. “It’s a deliberate act that affects every child and family who was looking forward to enjoying this space. We need to ask ourselves: what kind of community do we want to be? One that builds together—or one that watches progress unravel?”

Community members are urged to come forward with any information that could help identify those responsible. Details can be reported to Dyfed-Powys Police by calling 101 or via their online reporting system. Even small details could make a big difference.
